Thanks to the fans, Activision has managed to rake up over $3 billion in earning for just the past 12 months. Of course, it would only make sense that it was heavily reliant on the shared ecosystem model of the franchise: with Infinity Ward handling Modern Warfare and Warzone, Treyarch Studios on Black Ops Cold War, and Tencent on Call of Duty Mobile.
The tie-ins in the shared ecosystem go way far than any fan could think, with Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War even getting linked to Warzone. Also, remember the Pawn Takes Pawn ARG? That’s part of the bigger picture too. As Activision had reported, the total earnings come from products and services sold digitally or sold-in physically during the last 12 months, and includes license fees, merchandise and publisher incentives.
To give you even more statistics, net bookings is up over 80% and units sold through are up over 40% year over year. Activision said over 200 million people have played Call of Duty this year. That’s saying a lot and that’s all thanks to you fans out there who keep on supporting and believing.
