Finishers in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep work as “combat emotes”

Destiny 2 will receive a free version, entitled New Light, this fall as well as a new extension with Shadowkeep, which will introduce ‘finishers’, among other things. These special moves can be used by players to kill opponents in a spectacular way.

“If the life force of enemies falls below a certain threshold, they get an icon indicating that they can be killed,” franchise director Luke Smith tells Polygon. This makes the system look a lot like the ‘finishing moves’ in Doom, where opponents light up in orange if this is possible.

The ‘finishers’ can also be adjusted by adding ‘mods’ and can contain ‘effects’, so that you get ammunition for your Fireteam, for example when you use them. You are vulnerable during a ‘finisher’.

“We see it as combat ’emotes’,” says general manager Mark Noseworthy. The Eververse Store and rare ‘unlocks’ make it possible to use cosmetic ‘mods’. Gameplay-changing mods are earned by playing. “With the release, everyone can select one ‘finisher’, but we are working hard to be able to select several,” adds Smith.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep appears on September 17 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
