The crossbow saw its first introduction to the game of Fortnite Battle Royale in February in patch 2.4.2. Its lifespan was only about three months though when it got Vaulted. No reason was given, but weapons come and go in the game to freshen things up and to be able to add new ones.
Datamining by @FNBRLeaks however, suggests that the Crossbow will return to the game as a new weapon called the ‘Explosive Crossbow’.
The Explosive Crossbow was only recently modified within patch 5.1, meaning that it’s being worked on quite a bit. This could mean that we’ll be having the bow added to the game in the upcoming weeks.
The description so far for this Crossbow is:
”Shoots an arrow with an explosive tip. Your enemies’ worst nightmare!”
The new weapon will have limited ammo, and just as other explosive weapons, it’ll be using rockets. Considering that the weapon will be shooting arrows, it’ll probably do no damage to players’ structures, just like the old crossbow we know.
