PS5 DualSense™ Controller – Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Is the PS5's DualSense Controller a Game-Changer?

Sony stepped it up with the new DualSense™ controllers. It comes with new features that will give you a truly immersive gaming experience. With these innovations, the DualSense has been branded as a game-changer.

So here’s everything you need to know about the new features.

Haptic Feedback

The DualSense controllers are equipped with haptic feedback making games truly immersive. According to Wired’s PS5 reveal, the controllers have ahighly programmable voice-coil actuators to deliver vibration. This makes the haptic feedback different from the Dualshock’s rumble motors.

Brian Horton, the creative director of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales said “The haptic feedback precision allows us to do all sorts of new things. In Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we’ll be hinting to players which direction attacks are coming from by providing haptic feedback from the appropriate direction on the DualSense wireless controller. What does it feel like to use Miles’s stealth ability? How does a Venom Blast feel? Because of the high resolution of DualSense wireless controller’s haptics system, we can really push the dimensionality of the feedback. For instance, as you hold down Square to do a Venom Punch, you feel Spider-Man’s bio-electricity crackle across from the left side of the controller, culminating in the right side on impact.” in this Playstation blog feature.

Adaptive Triggers

Adaptive triggers have been placed in the L2 and R2 trigger buttons making you feel the tensions on the specific action you are taking. For example, drawing a bow to fire an arrow, or firing different guns.

A good example is the PS5 exclusive shooter game from Bethesda “Deathloop”. In Deathloop, the controller’s adaptive triggers will block the trigger button if your gun is jammed in-game. You’ll also receive specific haptic feedback vibrations telling you the gun is jammed along with the visual cue in-game.

With the Haptic feedback and Adaptive triggers, your sense of touch will be a huge factor when playing PS5 optimized titles.

Built-in Mic

Voice comm is a must in any team game nowadays. It’s a good thing that the new DualSense controllers have a built-in mic for easy communications. But if you’re planning to play for long hours, or have a good noise-canceling headset. You can connect it through the 3.5mm jack at the bottom of the controller.

Type-C USB port

The controller comes with a type-C or USB-C port that will make charging the controller faster.

Together with the controller’s improved battery life. Gaming for long hours won’t be a problem.

Also, some features from the DualShock remained. Like the touchpad, built-in speakers, and the share key. The Share key is now called Create which will help you capture and broadcast your games.

Putting all these new features together, I’m very excited to get my hands on the PS5 as soon as it’s available and try all these new features and games.

What feature are you excited to try?
