With the launch of the Xbox One X, quite a few games have already had a free upgrade to 4K resolution and HDR support. As turns out, Overwatch will soon be added to that list as well.
Since the release of Microsoft’s latest console, several titles have already received an Enhanced Patch. Using a patch like this, developers are able to optimize a game for new features such as 4K support and HDR colors in games. In questions asked by Windows Central, Blizzard has confirmed to be working on implementing 4K for Overwatch:
Overwatch team is excited with great possibilities Xbox One X opens. The team is currently exploring how the game experience can be enhanced on this platform to leverage the console’s incredible hardware, and is working on implementing 4K resolution in the game on Xbox One X. It is very important for the team to make sure the user interface looks natural on a truly big screen. We will share more details about our plans for 4K support on Xbox One X later.
Most of the work for the team behind Overwatch seems to be about optimizing the interface for a screen with such a resolution and format. Nevertheless, the developer seems very enthusiastic, since it already brought forward a patch like this for the console version of Diablo III.
Other games that have had updates since the release of the console include Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Forza Motorsport 7, Gears of War 4 and Call of Duty: WWII. Activision is also working together with Bungie on an update for Destiny 2, although it will not appear until December. When the update for Overwatch will appear is still unknown.
