The following year, they only won two awards namely Best Esports Game for the second time and Best Ongoing Game.
This Year in TGA 2018
Blizzard Entertainment is looking forward to seeing their game win all 4 categories. They will be the first multiplayer game to win Best Ongoing Game for the 2nd time and Best Esports for 3 years in a row.
Success in Esports
The brand-new category, Best Esports event is based upon the total number of viewers as well as overall presentation of the tournament. This year in 2018 saw the biggest audience count in the Overwatch League history.
Blizzard reported in a press release that there were over 10.8 million viewers for the Overwatch League event back on August 8, 2018. During the finale from August 25-26 in the Blizzard Arena in Burbank, CA, the event got itself with 860,000 viewers per minute, making it one of the biggest esports event of the year, according to Bizjournal.
In that same event, the team London Spitfire won the finals over Philadelphia Fusion. It was an exciting conclusion for the world event and in the end, the reigning champions have become nominated for this year’s The Game Awards for Best Esports Team.
Currently, the game has more than 40 million players as of October 29, 2018. It still ranks as one of the most active multiplayer games and one of the top FPS games with daily player count alongside CSGO.
