Marvel’s Spider-Man is Getting a Remaster for the PlayStation 5

Someone got a makeover

Sony announced that Spider-Man: Remastered is going to be available for the PlayStation 5 on November 12. Expect a lot of changes, including some familiar faces.

Insomniac games updated the game to perform well on the next-gen console. Expect an improved graphics quality, higher frame rates, new suits… and a new face for Peter Parker.

Yup, they recasted John Bubniak’s face from the PS4 version to Ben Jordan’s face.

This got a lot of flak from Twitter. Bryan Intihar, creative director at Insomniac Games responded:

“Today’s news about the new Peter Parker face model has surprised some of you, and we at Insomniac totally understand your reaction. Heck, it even took me awhile to get used to Peter’s new look. But as we discussed the franchise’s future and moving to the PS5, it quickly became apparent that delivering even more believable-looking characters made finding a better facial match for actor Yuri Lowenthal — who we all love as Peter — a necessity.

We care as much about this character as your attachment to him, so please know we didn’t make this decision/change lightly. As we did throughout the development of Marvel’s Spider-Man, we’ll continue to read your comments, listen, and always be looking or ways to improve every facet of the game. At the same time, I hope you can trust us that this decision is what we feel is best for the future of the franchise and our upcoming goals for this beloved Marvel character.”

But enough with the face drama, let’s talk more about the game.

With the power of the PlayStation 5, you can run Spider-Man: Remastered in 60FPS. Better get your 4k TVs ready.

Here’s an actual 60FPS gameplay footage captured in the PlayStation 5.

They updated the character assets, environment assets, and added ray-traced reflection to give the game a more realistic look.

Three new suits are also added in the game, one of which is the Amazing Suit.
