Sony Is Trying To Patent Back Button For Controller

If you recall that efficient PS4 back button attachment that went on sale for $29, well watch as how Sony tries to have it for them exclusively. Filed back in the summer of 2019, the back button attachment’s patent was coined to be an “add-on with buttons that may be mapped to controller buttons using customized button mapping pre-sets.”

The fun part here is that no one seems to know if the back button will be released for the PS5 (as the diagrams still indicate the DualShock and not the DualSense). Seems as if Sony’s just trying to get themselves out of trouble, unlike Valve for their Steam Controller that got hit by Corsair through Scuf and Ironburg Inventions. The only one that got out safe was Microsoft, as the Xbox Elite’s rear back controlls were also made and provided by Scuf and Ironburg Inventions.

The back button was supposedly an answer for cheaper gaming controllers built for competitive play, making it a better option for $30 than to buy a new controller altogether.
